What if I told you that you could host the perfect party (corporate event or private) without blowing your budget? Well, you can, and no one has to know how little you spent.

How? By serving up lots of appetizers, hot and cold, set out in various stations around your venue. Because Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering team is so good at both preparing and pairing appetizers, your guests will love the variety of options.

Another great thing about having appetizers-only at your gathering? You can please just about any appetite, from those looking for a full meal to those with smaller appetites. By offering both hot and cold appetizers, seafood and/or beef and chicken, plus inviting veggie options, you’ve got everybody covered!

Here’s a sampling of trendy appetizers we served just last week:

There are lots of ways to host an elegant and memorable engagement party. Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering planners can help you with everything from place settings and décor to menu additions and desserts.

That said, there’s nothing better than showcasing a great example, which is why we are sharing the evening menu and gorgeous palette of this recent evening engagement party for 100, hosted in the home of the parents of the bride-to-be.

Ten musicians serenaded the guests and set a romantic tone for the evening as friends and family arrived about 6:30 and were greeted by the hosts.

An elegant engraved initialed ice sculpture paid tribute to the bride and groom, and also served as a chilled base for Jumbo Shrimp appetizers, offered with Jacquie’s special Horseradish Cocktail sauce.

Guests were also treated to a premium-brand open bar and encouraged to select from mini Veuvre Cliquot and mini Rose Champagnes, to toast the happy couple.

Guests mingled outside under a tent and connected over exceptionally prepared Hors d’oeuvres (that included two of Jacquie Bols’ favorites):

Dinner began at 7:30, with three linen-draped contemporary stations set up to accommodate a variety of tastes.

The Poke Station consisted of fresh Salmon, Tuna, and Shrimp. Guests added their favorite ‘bowl’ ingredients, including Rice, Seaweed, Edaname, Scallions, Shredded Carrots, Sesame Seeds, Jalepeno Soy Sauce, Siracho Aioli, Ginger, Wasabi, and Ponzu

The Cacio Pepe Station (a beloved dish originating from Rome), was served by our chef. There, guests were served chef-made Italian Pasta with fresh-grated Pepper and Parmesan Cheese cut from a rather impressive 4 pound wheel of Imported Parmesan.

Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering Burrata Station was frequently re-visited by our guests, who chose Fresh Burrata Balls served in a glass sphere bowl, adding Roasted Beets, Marinated Olives, Tomatoes with Basil, and Roasted Grapes to their liking. Fig and Pinenut Salsa, Procuitto Chips, or Amelia’s fresh-made baguettes completed the ensemble.

A Small Plate Station included artfully arranged plates of King Ora Salmon with Mango and Papaya Salsa and multi-colored Fingerling Potatoes; or Beef Tenderloin with Salsa Verde and Whipped Yukon Gold Potatoes. Locally sourced Spring Pea Risotto paired well with either small plate entrée.

Of course, a selection of Mini Desserts completed the evening on a sweet note. It was a very inviting and fashionable dinner, and lovely evening, striking just the right note for guests and the happy couple. Well done!

Although we do appreciate the simplicity of going casual, it’s just so fun and classy to have a formal event. Even more so when that event is a bridal shower!

Jacquie’s team was positively inspired to host a stunningly elegant mid-day bridal shower at the Westfield home of the mother of the bride. Tables were carefully set with patterned family china and draped in soft coordinating colors, and silverware laid out by Jacquie's team.

Guests began to arrive at 11:30, greeted with butler-served rose’ champagne and hors d’oeuvres, including:

After all guests had arrived and mingled, lunch was served at 12:30, paired with a choice of Chablis or Pinot Noir.

The first course began with a farm-fresh salad of Field Greens, Shaved Asparagus, Slivered Rainbow Radish, Edible Flowers, and Poached Organic Farm Eggs, served with a Champagne Vinegrette.

The second course included a choice of:
Pan Roasted Organic Chicken Breast with Foraged Morels, Tarragon Baby Steamed Spring Potatoes and Haricot Vert Bundle
or
Pan Seared King Ora Salmon with Baby Steamed Spring Potatoes and Haricot Vert Bundle.

And finally, a beautiful and mouth-watering dessert:
Valrhonna Pot de Creme with Homemade Shortbread Cookie – which happens to be one of Jacquie Bols’ favorites. (We probably don’t have to tell you it was very well received!)

It was a positively exquisite celebratory brunch, from its sparkling (rose’) start to its decadent chocolatey finish! It’s such a treat to go formal! Our best wishes to the soon to be married couple!

Here’s how to assure your NYE party makes a lasting impression from the expert party planners and caterers at Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering:

  1. Wow your guests right up front! Set sparkling tea lights along the walkway. The main entrance should be a big wow with lights, a decorated arch of balloons, flowers, or themed décor.
  2. Choose a theme. Hollywood is a great NYE theme. Include old movie posters, stars hanging from the ceiling, a Hollywood walk of fame. Top Hats and Tails might include a top hat centerpiece at every table. Disco is always popular – make sure you add a disco ball and strobe lights.
  3. Music sets the tempo. Bluesy, laid back, or poppin’, make sure it can be heard from the entrance to the bar, tables, and everywhere in between.
  4. Choose your colors. Maybe it’s all silver and white. Or black and white. Pull the theme throughout your venue.
  5. Great table decor. Oscar statues at each table. Perhaps snow skies, or count down clocks, top hats filled with sparklers, blinking disco glassed… Check out Pinterest for great ideas you pull together yourself – or ask us for help.
  6. Lighting -- Use candles and spotlights for added drama.
  7. When it comes to food, be extravagant and absolutely do not run out! Be sure that serving tables are heaped with food. Add smaller cocktail tables for hors d’ouevres.
  8. Offer a specialty drink themed to your party. It’s a great way to cut down on your bar tab. If you are sticking to beer and wine, offer several types. Ask us for brand ideas and how much to have on hand.

When the evening begins winding down, set up a table where departing guests can also pick up a small memorable gift as they go.

On social media? Post plenty of pics and watch the fun comments roll in. Trust that your party will be talked about and remembered for a long time. Cheers!

“Brunch celebrations are big and robust this year,” according to Jacquie Bols, owner of Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering. No longer reserved for vacations or lazy weekends, brunch celebrations are taking center stage as celebratory events for birthdays, receptions, holidays, baby showers, retirements, and even corporate events.

Brunch is a great way to relax your body and wake up your palate with something delicious and maybe even a little decadent. Big Brunch catering ideas:

The Root-to-Stem movement is all about reducing food waste and using every possible part of fresh fruits and vegetables. Making use of the entire fruit or vegetable is what we’re all about at Jacquie’s Catering – since we love the Farm-to-Table movement and use fresh Indiana-grown produce as much as possible.

Root-to-Stem food possibilities:

Mushroom Superfoods! Mushrooms have incredible immune system benefits and they taste amazing, making them an exciting addition to lots of trendy eateries! Mushroom dishes we love:

Grazing Tables are terrific for low key events – especially when you want folks to get to know each other. Grazing tables allow guests to mingle over locally-produced cheeses and meats, spreads, fruits and breads. The more diverse and colorful, the greater the impact.

Pretzel Walls are having a moment! (As are bagel, cronut and donut walls.) This idea takes a classic comfort food and presents it in an unfamiliar way. It’s novel and unexpected, fun and – interactive – so perfect for birthdays, receptions, corporate breakfasts, even thank you events.

Who wouldn’t love choosing from a doughnut wall? Consider naming the types of pretzels and bagels after those you are celebrating, thanking – or introducing.

Korean food is gaining in popularity and makes for a hip, foodie- themed event.

The point of any get together is to celebrate with food, drink, music, and conversation. How you do that – and with what type of creative presentation -- is the art of a great party. Let’s talk about trends and your next event!

One hundred years can go by pretty quickly when you are a popular country club in a beautiful lakeside area of Indiana.

So when Maxinkuckee Country Club of Culver, Indiana decided to go all out with festivities celebrating their 100th anniversary, they did so in style, with a nod to the Roaring Twenties of 1920 – when the club first came into existence.

At least 200 people gathered outside on the golf course, under a pole tent with a live band. Guests were encouraged to go with the Roaring 20s theme, wearing 1920s classically themed apparel.

Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering didn’t miss a beat getting into the theme, helping with everything from the 1920s-era centerpieces -- to the drinks – to the lighting – to the food – right down to the dress code!

Patrons and celebrators included who’s who from the Culver area a well as members of the Maxinkuckee Country Club. The bar opened at 6 PM with classic 1920s-themed specialty cocktails. But guests could also offer wine and beer.

The “over the top” menu began with HORS D'OEUVRES PASSED ON SILVER TRAYS (with servers dressed appropriately (‘natch!), offering:

DINNER included:

The evening concluded with the dance floor wide open, with classic 1920s tunes that brought out the Fox Trot, Charleston, and the Black Bottom, as well as more contemporary songs and dances.

Attendees literally danced the night away, stopping for an occasional dessert or after-dinner liquor, courtesy of Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering.

Yes, we can absolutely bring our team to your Indiana location. And we always have fun with themed parties – offering ideas right beside your own. We love it!

Let’s talk before you throw your next Special Occasion!

Shakespeare was right. Why do the same old thing everyone else is doing? This is especially true when you are hosting a gathering to celebrate something special. At Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering, we want to help you:

It’s fun coming to an event and being surprised by the food, the theme, the flowers, the music, the décor, or even the way the presentation is set up. At Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering, we love originality, creativity, and exploring what’s possible at events. Our staff has great fun working with the folks that are planning any get-together – especially when we get to think ‘outside-of-the-box.’

For instance, at recent events we have:

From the very elaborate to the unconventional, large corporate events to smaller, more intimate gatherings, the Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering team is standing ready to help you pull together just the type of celebration you have in mind.

Let us do just that for you!

It takes team effort to make any company run smoothly. No one knows that better than Angelo Brown, one of Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering’s hard-working event managers.

“Angelo has been a visionary member of our catering team for more than ten years,” says Jacquie Bols, owner/CEO. “His sweet spot is pulling together precisely what’s needed to make smaller, more intimate cocktail and dinner parties – shine!

Angelo acknowledges that his passion is smaller scale events, but is quick to note it takes the full catering team to pull off any successful event, large or small.

“I kind of feel like a conductor,” Angelo says. “There’s definitely a symbiotic relationship between an event manager, the sales team and the chef’s staff. Together, we sort of ‘orchestrate’ each event, talking to the client, getting a real understanding of what’s being celebrated, assessing the bones of the venue – and then creating just the right vision for that evening.”

Creativity is a big part of what Angelo and his team does best. It’s really important to me that every event feels fresh and original, never redundant, from the food to the bar service, to the lighting, and the décor.”

Angelo definitely has an eye for design. “You need to assess the event space, the number of people attending, the purpose of event and who is hosting it – and then begin to paint the canvas.”

When our clients feel Angelo’s commitment to excellence and his desire to provide them with a truly memorable experience, they trust his judgment, his eye for detail, and his vision.

“When you have an upscale, more intimate party to plan, Angelo is your go-to guy. He won’t disappoint,” says Jacquie.

We tend to agree. Let’s talk about finding your ideal venue and just the right menu for your next cocktail or dinner party. Give us a call.

Simon Property Group board of directors held a dinner last week, from high atop their lovely 225 West Washington offices, courtesy of Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering.

The dinner for 26 included summer-fresh organic butler-served hors d’oeuvres, perfect for a mid-summer’s evening:

Guests were treated to an aromatic assortment of super premium wines, served table-side with the hors d’oeuvre selection, and throughout dinner.

Next course served was a delightfully light Salad of Citrus, Kale, Sprouts and avocado. (Everything but the avocado was Indiana-grown.)

Dinner included a choice of entrees:

And what evening dinner would be complete without dessert? In keeping with the fresh and light summer theme, Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering served Seasonal Berries with Fresh Gourmet Sorbet and Garden Mint in a martini glass.

Business meeting with flair, from the perfect vantage point – all deliciously prepared and served.

Simon Property Group, you rock!

Pick up any monthly magazine, and you’ll see recipes for foods we enjoyed ‘back in the day.’ In times of stress, we all tend to reach for foods we know we are going to enjoy; food favorites, if you will. Interestingly, the trend for comfort foods continues, even as some of the uncertainty of the times is behind us.

According to WebMD, “New research suggests that high-fat, high-carbohydrate comfort foods actually fight stress by stemming the tide of stress-related hormones that are released when people are acutely exposed to stress.”

Research firm Packaged Facts says, “Sales of baking related products soared by 24% last year to reach $26.5 billion. Baking comfort foods in times of pandemic stress was certainly a factor.”

At Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering, we have definitely taken this trend to heart. We took a look at repeat clients’ favorite entrees, and tweaked the recipes, updating them a bit for flavor, texture and taste. We also test-test in our kitchens to find out which of our entrees win out.

So you’ll find all your favorites on the menu – tasting even better than ever! -- from Beef Wellington to Beef Tenderloin; Coq au Vin to Chicken Marsala, Salmon en Croute, to Rack of Lamb with Mint. Your taste buds will purr with pleasure!

Since making sure what we serve is as healthy and organic as possible, you can also be assured virtually everything we prepare, cook and serve is sustainably raised, grown and produced by local farmers, and prepared with non-GMO ingredients.

Healthy favorites, updated -- and safely and organically produced. We like the sound (and taste!) of that.

We think you will, too.
