A non-profit, The Propylaeum has been open to the public for meetings and events for four generations. Located at 1410 N. Delaware Street downtown, it is nestled in the Old Northside historic district, a five-minute drive from Downtown Indianapolis.
The name ‘Propylaeum’ is Greek in origin, meaning an entrance of architectural importance. This is a suitable name, as even a cursory glance at the building’s classic Victorian façade and wrap-around porch confirms.
This famous landmark was built in 1890, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Landmarks. A remarkably beautifully-maintained Victorian mansion, the Propylaeum houses several updated meeting and conference rooms in addition to a charming attached Carriage House. Both have hosted hundreds of special events since 1924, many including famous national and local celebrities.
