If you are an educator, you may already know about Teacher’s Treasures. Founded in 2000 by Phyllis Imel, a retired school principal, the organization helped the at-risk children in community schools succeed with free and low-cost educational supplies. The first “free store for teachers” opened in the basement of Washington Community School on the city’s near westside.
As word spread, a dedicated staff of volunteers began seeking product and financial contributions to provide more teachers with a wider array of educational supplies and materials needed for their classrooms. When they ran out of room, Kroger stepped up to lease a former store to them at 1800 E. 10th Street. In 2007, this much larger location became Teacher’s Treasures’ new home.
Earlier this month, Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering helped this local grassroots nonprofit fundraise by catering a “Price is Right!” evening of fun and games at the E. 10th Street facility.
Doors opened at 5:45 P.M. to a good-sized crowd of supporters for a vigorous game of PLINKO! followed by cocktails and appetizers. Beverages were compliments of RNDC, SGWS, Sun King Brewing, Tito’s Vodka, and Pepsi-Co. Cocktail hour was followed by a Silent Auction, Photo Booth, and Give BACK pack bidding event.
Jacquie’s Catering provided appetizers before the “Our Price is Right” event began. Appetizers included Jacquie’s y Ricotta Boards with heirloom tomatoes and Amelia’s breads at every table. Mini tarts with goat cheese basil and sun-dried tomato pesto were also offered in addition to Hors d’oeuvres; shrimp cocktail shooters with lemon, plus Apricots Wrapped in Prosciutto, grilled and Served on Toasts with Herbed Chevre.
Jacquie also provided dinner for the guests, including Mixed Field Greens with Strawberries, Pecans and House Made Champagne Vinaigrette. The buffet offering was a choice of Chicken Breast Stuffed with Brie and Wrapped with Proscuitto or Boneless Beef Short Ribs with Port, Red Wine and Herbs de Provence Baby Smashed Red Potatoes with Butter and Chives.
For those opting for meatless dishes, Mixed Roasted Vegetables with Fresh Marjoram and Olive Oil and Portabello Mushrooms stuffed with Spinach on a bed of Tomato Coulis fit the bill perfectly.
Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering was pleased to take part in this festive fundraiser -- helping Teacher’s Treasures ace their fundraising goal with an A+!
