The Indiana State Assembly Club enjoys high tea at the Governor’s mansion

When you are in charge of social protocol for the Indiana State Assembly Club and you haven’t been able to engage in the traditional yearly visit to the Governor’s mansion in three years (due to Covid restrictions), you want to get it right.

That’s why Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering was tapped to serve a traditional “English High Tea” luncheon to spouses of Indiana’s newly elected state senators and judicial officials this past week, held at the Governor’s residence and hosted by Janet Holcomb, Indiana’s First Lady.

For many that came to the event, it was the first time they’d had a chance to see and tour the mansion, which contains many original historic documents and famous paintings by Hoosier artists. Janet Holcomb provided several tours of the home, and made the newest elected officials feel right at home.

The event, held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM was as classic as it was classy, right down to the lovely music played on the historic residence’ grand piano.

Butler-served high tea included classic English fare:

  • Afternoon English Cucumber and Dill Sandwiches
  • Egg Salad with Watercress
  • House Chicken Salad with Dried Cherries
  • Cheddar and Apple trays

Every type of English tea you can imagine was also served, including English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and Green Team.

Of course, having tea without the appropriate English desserts would be a shame, so Jacquie’s team made sure to include a selection of  Mini Petit Fours, Fresh Fruit Tarts, Mini Flourless Chocolate Cakes, as well as Traditional English Scones with Cream and Jam.

It was a warm, filling and welcoming event for all our newly minted state representatives and their families.
