Which of these event-planning mistakes will you make?

We’ve all been to parties that have been a blast, and more than likely, a few that have been duds. How can you make sure your next event falls into that first category?

With better than 21 years of experience under our belts as an award-winning caterer, the experts at Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering have a few ideas regarding your next catered event.

Here’s what NOT to do:

  • Don’t wait too long before setting your date. The earlier you book it and begin to plan, the better. Especially if your date is a spring wedding or holiday weekend in December.
  • Don’t choose an event venue without completely considering its layout and seating capacity. Some people fall in love with a venue and push to make it work for their event. Getting the right space (not too big, not too tight for the number of folks you are inviting) is key.
  • Don’t assume parking is a part of your venue. Ask.

  • Don’t presume you can arrive early on the day of the event to set up. Make sure you have a set time to gain access and decorate.
  • Hiring a pricey caterer doesn't necessarily mean you’ll get what you pay for. Even the most beautifully prepared foods can be ruined if they aren’t served at the right temperature. Make sure you hire a seasoned caterer with a fantastic track record.
  • Don’t make assumptions about your guests’ food sensitivities. Ask them in advance. We can’t tell you how many times we have served something only to have several guests tell us that they can’t eat it for any number or reasons. You and your caterer should be prepared for this by having vegetarian, soy-free, and gluten-free options available.
  • If you are hiring a band or DJ, don’t assume that the electrical and video portions of the entertainment will work together. Make sure everyone talks A/V, including number of outlets and circuitry requirements -- well in advance.
  • Don’t neglect traffic flow at your event. Work with your event coordinator to set up things like bar flow and seating to allow for ease of movement.

At Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering, we understand the ins and outs, do’s and don’ts of events. In fact, we have all kind of ideas about food, venue, specialty drinks, desserts, and décor you may not have even thought about.

So – before you begin planning for your next event, we hope you’ll talk to us. We can help you rest assure that your special day will come off without a hitch.
