8 ways to WOW your reception decor

October 10, 2026 | Lauren Windle

Wedding receptions are everyone’s favorite part of a wedding. And – they can get pricey very quickly.

Here’s how to keep your reception interesting – especially if you are doing much of the decorating yourself:

  • Want an easy and inexpensive way to add drama to reception tables? Add mirrors. Everything placed over them looks more elegant and double in size.
  • “Draping” is having a major moment. Think ceiling drapes. Fabric wrapped around beams, soft fabric room dividers, and cascading table runners.
  • Lighting is absolutely part of decor. Consider dramatic pin spots, candlelight, and colored washes.
  • Light color palettes are out – bold saturated colors are in! Think unexpected color combinations and bold patterns.
  • Change up the way you think about table placement. Instead of end-to-end banquet tables, make your table layouts serpentine. Or zig-zag. Much more interesting!
  • You don’t need to spend hundreds on extravagant floral centerpieces. Instead, buy individual rose buds or lilies, placing them at and around tables. Elegant.
  • Mix fresh flowers with ‘fake’ greenery such as cascading (bendable, twistable) vines. Not only are they are reusable, but they keep the look you want throughout your event.
  • Use fitted form table covers (with elasticized fabric the cling to tables and close in on table legs). They look on-trend and stay in place, no matter who tugs on them (from the wind to small children).

    The Poffs

  • Consider food as a part of your décor. Dramatic food displays are fun – especially at interactive food stations. Sculptural hors d’oeuvres, beautiful butter presentations (and ice sculptures) are going to draw lots of attention!
  • Want to draw attention to the appetizer table? Do it with different lighting. Ditto for the ice cream or coffee bar.

No matter what you decide to do with your reception décor, cue us in on it so we can join you in making your wedding reception as delicious as it is memorable!
