What Jacquie knows: Insider reception tips

We have the best event planners! Their job is to help streamline your next event, offering suggestions, answering questions, and helping things get off to a great start – and stay there.

Here are some things we know for sure:

·      Nobody knows what they will want to eat at a reception 6 months in advance

Skip this choice on your RSVP. Instead, offer a choice of two popular entrées for your dinner. We can guide you on how many of each to have on hand. You could also offer food stations, a popular choice, so folks can choose what they want in real time.

·      Music sets the tone

Music makes your ceremony keeps thing interesting, impactful and memorable. Live music is even better. Maybe a 3 or 4-piece group or a guitarist without vocals.

And of course, having a great band and DJ for your reception provides the best bang for your buck. (And ask about their sound system in advance.)

·      Keep the glow going

Lighting is way more important than most people think. Candles provide a lovely atmosphere – romantic and cozy. Use them everywhere – from dining tables to the bar – even in the bathrooms. Quick note: Some venues don’t allow real candles, so we can help you check this out in advance. Battery candle options offer a similar vibe and – you can re-use them!

·      Upgrade the traditional cocktail hour

You don’t have to have a full open bar, which can be pricey. But if you choose that, our event planners can help you stock popular options. We never, ever recommend a cash bar at a reception. Guests find it tacky – which isn’t a good way to begin any event.

If for budget is a little tighter, offer two different kinds of wines and bottled beer -- and an array of fun cocktails. Having a mocktail (or two) for the day is also a good idea.

·      Get clever with wedding favors

Pastel coated almonds? A monogrammed wine glass? Blah. Go with  edible favors guests will actually enjoy – such as a yummy brunch item for the next morning; a piece of wedding cake to go; or specially named post celebration coffee or bloody mary mix for the “day after.”

Ask us for ideas on venues, what people like for appetizers, for cost saving options, drink trends, popular DJs… you name it! Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering event planners are here to reduce pre-party jitters and make your event memorable. We know what works!
