Fabulous fall wedding receptions are so very chill

October 22, 2018Lauren Windle

Summer may be referred to as the classic wedding season, but more and more couples are saying "I do" in the fall.

After all, who wants run-of-the-mill when you can have chill? No sweltering heat. Fabulous foliage for inside and out. Rich fall colors. Incredible fresh produce. That’s just a few of the many reasons we love fall weddings at Jacquie’s Gourmet Catering.

Here are Jacquie’s fall tips on how to bring the rich bounty of the fall season into your big day:

  • Borrow the rich colors of fall and earth textures and tones. Use shades of peach, tan, brown, burgundy, fig, gold, and jewel tones. And not just for brides’ maid dresses. Think invitations, lighting, bridal bouquets, table centerpieces, and especially, food and drinks!
  • Food and drink should be a little heartier for a fall weddings. Think red wines, whiskey cocktails, hot toddies, and spiked ciders.
  • Get creative. Add a glamorous fur stole over your gown. Or have the bridal group wear tennis shoes under their gowns and tuxes.
  • Evenings get cool in the fall. Add heaters along the path to the reception facility. You could also drape comfy blankets over the back of chairs if things get chilly in the evening.
  • Foods get fun in the fall with sliders, a chili bar, beef brisket sandwiches, pork tenderloins, mini grilled cheese sandwiches, and steak/chicken/veggie fajitas bars.
  • You can even incorporate seasonal food as thank you gifts or as directional items: Seating cards in fresh pears or apples, for instance. Or warm cider donuts as a take-home-in-a bag thank you gift.
  • Use brilliant foliage and autumnal style in centerpieces. Like birch branches and fall leaves paired with pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks and bright taffeta ribbons. Add seasonal garlands around tables and carts.
  • Combat the chilly weather with a specialty coffee bar to go with your wedding cake. Have serve-yourself specialty liquor toppings, fresh whipped cream, cinnamon sticks, and pumpkin flavoring.
  • Have a special seasonal signature cocktail on hand. Maybe a hot toddy, Irish coffee, or hot buttered rum. Name it after your best man, or after your college school mascot, or your dog’s nickname. Have fun with it. Your guests will love it.
